The Museum Garden

The Museum Garden

Rackstad Museum is located on the Haget farm, where the Eriksson brothers once ran a furniture workshop, farmed the land, and grew vegetables. Much of the garden remains unchanged, with rolling meadows and old fruit trees. Bees buzz among the flowers, producing honey sold in the museum shop. The lilac arbor and apple trees provide shade for guests at Café Elis, which also features a play café just for children.

In the sun-drenched slope, some twenty varieties of old-fashioned roses fill the air with their wonderful fragrance.

Maja Fjæstad’s flowers in art grow beside the footpath beneath the ancient ash tree. Along the entire long side of Haget and the furniture workshop, large perennial borders flourish with plants characteristic of the Arts & Crafts era.

“Elis i Tasere” had a long-term vision and planted noble hardwood trees more than a hundred years ago—trees that still stand today, forming a unique deciduous woodland for this region.

The garden surrounding Oppstuhage is, like the house itself, a listed heritage site and is preserved with minimal alterations. All shrubs, trees, and fruit trees are marked with name signs.

The gardens are cared for sustainably, without chemicals or artificial fertilizers. We protect all species and place great emphasis on biodiversity, supported by composting and traditional brushwood fencing. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the fruit and berries.

In winter, the garden settles under a soft blanket of snow—like a painting by Gustaf Fjæstad.
