Haget, Christian Eriksson’s childhood home in Taserud, is scenically located within walking distance of downtown Arvika. The 19th century building has been renovated and extended to include two exhibit wings that teem with works of art.
The house now serves as the museum’s entrance and café.
Architect Rune Falk designed the museum. King Carl-Gustaf XVI officiated at the opening ceremonies on June 18, 1993.
If you’re at all interested in art, Rackstad is an exhilarating experience.
One wing hosts a permanent exhibit of early 20th century art by the members of the Rackstad Colony. The lower level, which changes faces throughout the year, features fine local craftsmanship of the same era. A park-like area with sculpture by Christian Eriksson and his son Liss surrounds the museum. Don’t forget to take a stroll on the grounds and saunter over to nearby Oppstuhage and the Nytomta handicraft court.
Built in 1998, the new hall houses the museum’s temporary exhibits of pre-modern, modern and contemporary art.
Among the artists whose work has appeared there are Erik Grate, Endre Nemes, Liss Eriksson, Lena Cronqvist, Olle Bonniér and Sven Frödin – not to mention members of the Artists’ Association such as Carl Larsson, Richard Bergh and Bruno Liljefors.
The museum’s website provides up-to-date information about current and future exhibits and concerts.
The new hall offers a variety of year-round activities, including vocal recitals, music, theatre and dance. The museum also serves as a meeting place for businesses and private organizations.

The Rackstad Museum Shop has carries artwork, posters of the exhibits, books about the Rackstad Colony members and much more. You are more than welcome to browse through the shop whenever the museum is open.
Renowned for its mouth-watering homemade pastries, the café also features light lunches and drawings by Jörgen Zetterquist of people connected with the museum. Though generally following the same schedule as the museum, the café may be closed occasionally during the off-season.
You can join the Rackstad Museum’s Ideella föreningen (nonprofit association). In addition to helping support the museum, you will receive the member’s magazine each spring and autumn. Last but not least, you will obtain free admission to all the exhibits and discounts on the shop’s assortment of literature.
The association’s roster currently includes some 1,200 members.
